Royal Caribbean International will return to its plans to homeport the Allure of the Seas in Galveston, Texas, starting in November 2022.

The Allure was set to make its Galveston debut this year, but in April the Port of Galveston approved Royal Caribbean's request to delay by one year the construction of a $100 million terminal that would be big enough to accommodate the 225,000 gross-ton, Oasis-class Allure.

Since Galveston's current terminal cannot handle a ship of the Allure's size, Royal Caribbean replaced the ship with the Liberty of the Seas for the winter 2021-22 season.

When it does debut in 2022, the Allure will be the biggest cruise ship to date to be based in Texas.

The Allure will offer a mix of seven-day Western Caribbean itineraries from the new cruise terminal to ports including Roatan, Honduras; Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico; Falmouth, Jamaica; and George Town, Grand Cayman.

Royal Caribbean said the two-story Galveston terminal will feature state-of-the-art technology, including mobile check-in and facial recognition to expedite guest arrival, and it was designed and developed sustainably to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental) certification standards.
